The Green New Deal: it’s all the rage, but what’s behind the media hype? Come hear from local organizers on the ground about the potential of the Green New Deal to accelerate achievements for climate justice, then learn about the economics behind the policy, and ways to respond to claims that a Green New Deal for all is too expensive and too impractical. You’ll walk away with concrete ways plug into local action on the ground here in Washington.

BREAKING THE CYCLE OF TRAUMA: INDIVIDUAL + COMMUNITY HEALING POSSIBILITIES – Facilitated by Nikki Chau and Tam Dinh
A somatic workshop designed to help us understand trauma and explore practices for how post-traumatic growth can rebuild us and our communities. “There is nothing stronger than a broken woman who has rebuilt herself.”

NON-VIOLENT DIRECT ACTION TRAINING – Organizational host: the Poor People’s Campaign
A hands-on, practical training that gives participants practice with a variety of non-violent direct action techniques and contextualizes these as a vital tool for movement building.

ENDING SAVIOR WORK: CREATING HEALTHY PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL BOUNDARIES – Presented by Reel Grrls
For over 15 years, presenters Nancy Chang (Exec. Director of Reel Grrls) and Subhadra Terhanian (CEO of Uncle Harry’s Natural Products) have come to understand how to identify the toxic guilt surrounding Savior Work and how to phase it out of their lives and activism work. Their experiences shed light on how to work in social justice fields without causing trauma in yourself and others.

HEALTH JUSTICE IN KING COUNTY AND WASHINGTON STATE. Presented by Somali Health Board + NW Health Law Advocates
This session combines storytelling and advocacy education to underscore the importance of health care as a human right and to highlight local advocacy efforts to improve healthcare access and relevancy in immigrant and refugee communities in King County and WA State. Learn how to get involved!

NIA DANCE – Led by Jeanna Wheeler & Melanie McFarland
A self-care and healing movement session guided by Jeanna Wheeler, Melanie McFarland and other local Nia practitioners, and focused on the them of ‘Building Power’. Nia is a fusion of dance, martial arts, and healing techniques that is accessible to all levels of fitness and physical ability. We will hold the intention to sense greater strength, stability, and ease in the body while releasing mental and emotional tension.

ENDING FAKE ACTIVISM: SKILLS BUILDING – Presented by Reel Grrls
Learn how to root out toxic behaviors in yourself and identify when others are weaponizing their tears, status, or self perceived adversity to manipulate you into not holding them accountable for their actions or refusing to hear critical feedback.

HEALTH CARE FOR ALL TRAINING – Presented by Whole Washington
A collective of committed healthcare organizers shares effective tactics for lobbying elected officials – with a focus on universal healthcare and Improved Medicare for All legislation. The approaches presented can be applied to any issue.
