DNDA’s Nature team spends most days outside — rain or shine — alongside community members and students as part of our Urban Forest Restoration Program in West Seattle. Our team leads volunteer restoration events at about a dozen urban forest sites across the West Duwamish Greenbelt — the largest contiguous forest in Seattle — and throughout the Longfellow Creek Watershed through the Green Seattle Partnership.

Community and youth volunteers of all backgrounds help by removing invasive plants, planting native trees and shrubs, and restoring local habitats. When they’re not in the field, the Nature team leads hands-on environmental lessons for local elementary students. Our educators collaborate with teachers to coordinate classroom visits and forest field trips, helping youth connect with the natural world and learn about environmental stewardship.

DNDA’s Nature team also spearheaded the restoration of Delridge Wetland Park, now a thriving public park with an outdoor classroom for environmental education — a lasting example of community-powered restoration in West Seattle.
