Community Meeting on Roxhill Bog Restoration

Sharing is caring!

A public meeting for the community-led restoration of Roxhill Bog will be held online on Wednesday, November 17th from 6:30 to 8 pm. The meeting will provide an update on the hydrology study of why the wetland has been drying out, possible solutions to the problem and also share the results of the community survey that was conducted. This is an important opportunity for the public to provide comments about the project and their hopes for the wetlands’ future.

The folks at Natural Systems Design, who have been studying the hydrology and soils of Roxhill’s peat wetland for more than a year, will present their findings. They have been able to answer some of the most pressing questions that were asked in our first public meeting in 2019 and have a possible solution for retaining water in the wetland.

Roxhill Bog is one of the last peat wetlands in Seattle, one that has a deep history in West Seattle (more historical information is available here). This meeting will dispel some of the misconceptions of this wetland and possibly give insights for other wetlands that are being affected by similar impacts.
