Summer Fun with SYP

Sharing is caring!

The Summer Youth Program (SYP) is back in full swing! In the last month 250 youth have taken part in our summer programming, and we still have plenty of activities on the rise. This year we’re thrilled to be hosting SYP programming at an additional site, Rainier Vista, as well as NewHolly and High Point communities.

The SYP is an annual partnership with Seattle Housing Authority (SHA), providing a variety of art, nature-based and recreational activities for families and youth to enjoy in their respective neighborhoods. This year SYP activities include soccer, swimming, guitar and piano lessons, visual art, sewing and embroidery, basketball, family and youth campouts, cooking and more– all completely free for SHA residents.

As part of SYP programming, DNDA and our neighborhood partners are proud to host the 2nd annual One Love Youth Soccer Tournament. This year’s tournament is sponsored by Verity Credit Union, King County Parks and Boon Boona Coffee. A big thank you to our event sponsors and the Van Asselt Community Center for making this tournament possible!

Thank you to our One Love Youth Soccer Tournament sponsors, Verity Credit Union, King County Parks and Boon Boona Coffee!

Last year’s first-ever One Love Youth Soccer Tournament was a great success, with over 125 youth and 60 families joining us at the Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club Soccer Field. The tournament features age-appropriate soccer matches between boys and girls participating in SYP programming, as well as the Somali Health Board Youth Soccer Team. It’s always a fun time when our communities come together on the field, and we’re so thankful for the coaches, volunteers, families and community members who help bring this event to life.

In addition to the One Love Tournament, other upcoming additions to this year’s SYP programming include the NewHolly Family Campout, the NewHolly Girls’ Campout, t-shirt printing at the NewHolly Family Fun Fest & Health Fair, the youth basketball tournament at Van Asselt Community Center and the High Point Health Fair.

Two public street murals, outdoor movie nights and weekly street play celebrations will take place too, packing lots of fun into DNDA’s summer programming.

Exciting additions to this year’s SYP include Friday street play celebrations and outdoor movie nights.

DNDA’s Summer Youth Program is back and bigger than ever this summer, and the growth of these programs wouldn’t be possible without our community of supporters. SYP programming combines our organizational values of Art, Nature and Neighborhood, and thanks to your support we’re able to ring in another year of SYP summer fun. Thank you!
