The AmeriCorps Vista Experience with DNDA (Apply Now!)

Sharing is caring!

AmeriCorps brings people together through service and volunteering to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement. Members serving in the VISTA program support projects that address poverty in communities across the country. Through fundraising, grant writing, volunteer recruitment, and much more, VISTA members serve for one year to help increase the capacity of nonprofits to strengthen their impact in those communities.

Here at DNDA, we are currently seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA to join our team as a Community Engagement and Communications Specialist VISTA. This role will work closely with the Communications and Development team to build relevant programs to address the needs of families in Delridge. VISTA’s can expect an array of benefits, courtesy of AmeriCorps, as well as a flexible hybrid-work environment and a housing stipend provided by DNDA.

Having a hard time imagining what your AmeriCorps experience might look like? We reached out to Miles Cameron and Intale Shuba to hear about their time serving as a VISTA with us. Read on to hear about what they did during their terms and how the experience has impacted their lives.

Miles, Community Engagement and Development Specialist VISTA, ’20-’22:

“I am so grateful for my two years I spent with DNDA. Working as an AmeriCorps VISTA was a perfect stepping stone for me in my career path, and I felt fully supported by the team at DNDA in my pursuits. DNDA is an ideal organization to work for, and is one that allows you freedom to be creative and make a personal impact on the community.”

Intale, Project Improvement Specialist & Program Capacity Building Specialist VISTA ’18-’20:

“I had two wonderful years serving DNDA, its staff, and the communities of South and Southwest Seattle as an AmeriCorps VISTA. I joined DNDA thinking my interest was more macro-level policy work; however, I soon discovered my sincere affinity for grassroots work, especially youth and family programming. I coordinated DNDA youth programs, improved the organization’s ability to offer more programs to youth and families through capacity-building efforts like grant writing, and developed authentic relationships with amazing leaders and community members. I cherish the memories I made over the two years as a VISTA, and consider the experience an important part of my personal growth and professional journey.”

Every VISTA experience is different, but you can always expect to build fond memories and find personal growth while serving as a VISTA with DNDA.
