On Saturday, July 26, DNDA and the Delridge community gathered for an unforgettable evening at our annual Wine in the Woods fundraiser. This event was a beautiful blend of nature, community, and purpose set in a tranquil surrounds of a private garden in West Seattle. Wine in the Woods was more than just a fundraiser, it was a space to learn about DNDA’s wonderful Nature team. There were five engaging booths presenting different aspects of what DNDA’s Nature is and does.

Attendees learned about the history and evolution of our Nature team, celebrating the milestones and people who have shaped our journey. There was a booth for the urban forest restoration program, which showcased our ongoing efforts in various sites around Delridge and West Seattle and our commitment to preserving our environment. Guests stepped into our outdoor classroom, discovering how we mentor youth in environmental stewardship through hands-on learning at Delridge Wetland Park, at our wetlands, and STEAM education booth. And we shared our vision for our future, including exciting program plans, including water quality monitoring, forest stewardship, environmental justice initiatives, and youth internships. To wrap up, attendees unleashed their creativity through engaging EcoArts activities, connecting with nature in a fun and meaningful way.

After each of the booths, guests enjoyed a delightful wine tasting experience with four local wineries: Darby Winery, House of Smith, T2 Cellar, and Spruce Hill Winery. Each winery offered a variety of pours, complemented by tasty hot appetizers provided by Dayo Sense Catering and a beautiful, delicious tiered grazing table from Brown Girl Charcuterie that guests absolutely loved.

One of the speakers at the event was Nancy Whitlock, founder and executive director or Nature Consortium, the nonprofit that merged into DNDA in 2016, bringing with it our current restoration and youth art programs. “I’m beyond thrilled and proud that the work has continued so flawlessly under the guidance of DNDA,” she said. “I am honored to still be connected to the organization and its great work.”

The evening was not just about enjoying fine wine and good company; it was about making a difference. We were thrilled to raise $16,000 of our $25,000 goal, and you can still donate to help us meet this target. The funds raised will support vital programs that educate, restore, and empower our communities and environment.

“At DNDA we are building more than properties,” said DNDA Executive Director Mesha Florentino said in her remarks to attendees. “We are building futures. We are planting more than trees. We are planting permanence. We are tending to the soil of our community. DNDA is making space for the families, artists, current and future generations to take root and thrive.”

Whether you were a long-time supporter or a first-time guest, your presence helped make this event a success. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported Wine in the Woods. Together, we are making a positive impact in the community. We look forward to seeing you next year!
