KUOW @ Youngstown!

Sharing is caring!

On Friday, May 29th, my worlds collided in a fabulous way.  KUOW, of which I am an everyday listener, did a live broadcast of Week In Review at Youngstown, where I am an everyday denizen.  If only it could happen like this everyday…

It was great.  Host Bill Radke LOVED the spaces at Youngstown, including our Theater where they set up shop.  Everyone from the KUOW team was super pro, and the broadcast went off without a hitch.  Admittedly, my favorite parts were when Bill would remind everyone that “we’re here live at the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center” and then encourage us all to cheer.  You can bet I did some cheering, along with the 60 or so audience members, some of whom are West Seattle residents that had previously never been in our building.

The rest of the broadcast, in addition to the cheering for Youngstown, was pretty good too.  Host Bill Radke was joined by former Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, Seattle Channel host Joni Balter and Q13 political analyst C.R. Douglas, as they discussed and debated an array of current issues facing Seattle.  These included the upcoming city council races, the protests about the Shell Oil drilling rig, smoking in parks, and more.  For KUOW’s coverage of the event, and to listen to the broadcast, click here.

I am proud of the work we do at Youngstown and am glad we can host this kind of civic dialogue here in addition to the wealth of arts and cultural programs and classes that are here throughout the year.  We at the Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association are working to make Delridge a more vibrant and thriving community.  I believe KUOW does the same for our whole city and region.

Their visit here was the kickoff for Week In Review’s Summer Tour – KUOW will host live broadcasts of the show at venues in each of Seattle’s seven city council districts during the summer of 2015.  These are free and open to the public.  The next is this Friday June 19th, at the NW African American Museum, another fabulous historic building hosting important cultural and artistic programming for our region.

To anyone, go to these if you can!  To KUOW, come back to Youngstown any time…
