SAṂSĀRA is a film about struggle and reprieve. We follow the journey of a young woman, who is struggling to face life and its hard realities. We watch her reject, process, and face her fears, all through the lens of a layered world of threats.

This film features a variety of Seattle dancers. Our work is centered around black and brown artists while still boasting the beauty of our diverse dance community. Most of the choreography is rooted in Amapiano foundations, but you will also see Krump, Waaking, Hip Hop and Afro Fusion.

Music in the film is by Uncle Waffles, one of the most popular Amapiano DJs today. Amapiano is a music and dance genre that originated in South Africa around 2010. The genre’s strongest influences come from Deep House / Afrohouse and Kwaito, but is also influenced by tribal and the overall African sound. Currently growing in popularity, it’s starting to reach clubs of cities all around the world, even Seattle! We are big fans of amapiano and Uncle Waffles, and as she is coming to Seattle to perform at Bumbershoot on September 3rd, we thought it was the perfect time to explore her work. She is known for her high-energy sets, distinct styling and hairstyles, and animated facials and dancing.
