Delridge Day 2016: DNDA Cultural Stage

Sharing is caring!

This past Saturday was the annual Delridge Day Celebration at the Delridge Community Park and Skate Park. Families, friends, and neighbors came out to celebrate the wonderful neighborhood of Delridge with food, games, two stages, and more!  For the first time, DNDA hosted a Cultural Stage which featured four diverse performances by local community organizations.  These included a small group of children ages 6-12, dressed in full traditional clothing performing ‘Las Chilenas’, a dance which originated in Oaxaca, Mexico.  The second performance featured the Abaraka Trio, who captured the crowd by playing beautiful West-African Kora music. Following, was a group of Vietnamese dancers from the Van Lang Vietnamese Cultural School, who gracefully spun and twirled their fans and hats on the Cultural Stage .The last performance was Dora Oliveira’s group: Dance Brazil, who lit up the stage with their energy and charisma performing multiple Afro-Brazilian dances which included kids and adults of various ages.  Every performance was vibrant, fun, and showed the cultural diversity of the neighborhood.  Delridge Day was more than just a celebration, but a space for community engagement, empowerment, and appreciation of everyone living in the Delridge area.

A special thanks goes out to VIEWS, the organization that hosts Delridge Day every year, and the main sponsor of DNDA Cultural Series, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, along with all the other Cultural Events Series partners. Don’t miss the next event in the Cultural Series, the Children’s Moonlight Festival, coming up September 11th!
