Summer Wind Down
As the summer draws to a close, it’s exciting to look back over the past couple of weeks and the work that’s been accomplished. All in all, by the end of the summer over 2 acres of invasive plant species were removed in the Greenbelt! Volunteers from Camp Metigoshe, Seattle Works/DDB, City Year, the Cool Moms Group, and our summer youth employees from STEP (Seattle Teen Employment Preparation Program) and SYEP (Seattle Youth Employment Program) cut and dug blackberry, pulled ivy, maintained our previously planted sites, and watered our budding native plants. I strongly recommend taking a hike through the Greenbelt to see the changes that have occurred over the summer.
STEP, who worked with us for 6 weeks, Mon.-Wed., 9am-3pm. Thank you all for sticking it out through the summer heat!
Camp Metigoshe came all the way from North Dakota to help us restore the Greenbelt!
Saturday volunteers dug up some gigantic rootballs and were entertained by Tess Morgan one of our core volunteers and a fabulous singer.
The Cool Moms and their awesome kids came out for a morning of learning about the forest, watering plants, and picking blackberries.
DDB Advertising Agency came out to volunteer with us through Seattle Works and got to try their hand at maintenance, digging blackberry, and watering. A singing trio also came out to entertain them.
And last but not least, City Year and several individual volunteers came out this past Saturday and helped cut blackberry, pull ivy, and water. They were also got to enjoy the sounds of the Chicago Seven, a local jazz band.
