Our Nature team is growing! We are looking for a strong candidate for a key role leading education programming through our Delridge Wetland Park project and our Urban Forest Restoration Program. The Environmental Education Coordinator will tailor technical, science-based information for diverse audiences, developing relevant curriculum and activities. This position will require integrity and accountability when doing work with partners and in the community.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, permanent position. Compensation will be $23.00 per hour, and includes paid time off benefits, as well as pro-rated medical insurance (or a stipend for those who waive insurance) and retirement benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead long-term environmental education programming for 3-5th grade STEM classes at the Delridge Wetland Park.
  • Develop and facilitate afterschool programing for local teens that focuses on exploring environmental justice topics and building professional skills.
  • Develop and facilitate inclusive environmental education programming related to environmental justice and stewardship that meets the needs of both adults and youth in our community.
  • Perform outreach and engagement that respects stakeholders and maximizes resources.
  • Assist with grant writing and reporting relevant to DNDA’s environmental programming.
  • Assist with other environmental programs when additional capacity is needed, which may include providing volunteer event support for large annual events.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience developing and facilitating outdoor education programming.
  • Experience leading groups of youth in educational activities.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of volunteers, community groups, partners and staff.
  • Strong leadership skills, and confidence in giving direction and in managing people and activities.
  • Commitment to including and amplifying the voices of those who have been historically excluded from power and decision-making.
  • Basic knowledge of Pacific Northwest ecology.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills — comfortable speaking in front of groups.
  • Physically able to work long days in adverse weather conditions.
  • Willingness to follow up-to-date public health policies concerning COVID-19, including physical distancing and wearing of personal protective equipment.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination, required by Seattle Public Schools and Seattle Parks & Rec.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (tools, plants, trees, etc) and walk in uneven terrain.
  • Good driving record and current driver’s license.
  • Positive attitude, energetic personality and sense of humor.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A./B.S. degree or higher in education, science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of local watersheds.
  • Experience in grant writing and/or reporting.
