Free & after school in West Seattle
Fall quarter is here for our Youth Art Program, and this quarter we’re offering free organic farming classes for youth right here at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center in West Seattle. Classes start next week, so sign up today!
Grow Up! Organic Gardening
Like food? Come to the Youngstown Garden and learn how to grow it, cook it, eat it, and use it. We’ll care for our chickens, build and maintain our garden, learn about all aspects of food systems, listen to music, hang out, cook, and make herbal products with our garden bounty. Service learning hours available too. This class is aimed at ages 13-19, but all are welcome! Thursdays 3:30-5:30pm
To register: email Monica@naturec.org
The Garden
We have 3 garden beds, an herb patch, and a handmade bean trellis in the community garden behind the Youngstown building. Other tenants in the building also have their own plots in the garden, and we work together to maintain the space. We are also part of a co-op of tenants that take care of a few chickens (!) in our hand-built chicken coop.
All Access
We’re offering the gardening class as part of All Access, an after school program organized as a partnership between all of the arts organizations here at Youngstown. Nature Consortium, Artscorps, Youth Media Institute, and Rock School are all hosting their own classes during the week to make Youngstown a happening hub of arts programming for the youth of West Seattle.
