NatureC Staff Answer: Where Were You at 15?

Sharing is caring!

Today marks the first day of our 15th year anniversary! It’s a big milestone, and we’re looking forward to a great year full of growth, reflecting on what it means to be 15 in nonprofit years and in human years. To celebrate our year, the staff dug out some old high school photos to answer the question: What were you like at 15?

Lili  Allala, Restoration  Director

I was in an all-female show choir all 4 years of high school; we were called the Leading Ladies! I wore sparkly dresses, intense stage make-up, and sang my heart out while I danced. I was a soprano. Some of the best times I had while away on show choir competitions. (see picture of me with serious red lipstick and red dress) I also ran cross country for a minute. What was I good at? Being me!

Nancy Whitlock, Executive Director

I may have had a bad perm at 15, but I already had a deep love of the arts, tall trees and spending quiet time in the woods!

Monica Thomas, Outreach & Media Coordinator

I went through a punk/goth phase (didn’t everyone?) back when shopping at Hot Topic was really cool. I took a lot of pictures of myself sideways, you know, MySpace style.  I wanted to be a rock star, but back then I was just the rocker girl that brought my guitar to school. I wrote a lot of hopelessly romantic songs about boys I liked and embarrassed myself a lot.

Stacey Sowers, Grants Manager

At this age I wanted to be an artist. I loved Picasso and Joan Miro, played shortstop in softball, and listened to ska music.

Ryan Applegate, Marketing Director

I procrastinated (duh) in signing up for drivers ed and creatively failed my driver’s test by unknowingly running a red light.  It was the kind of gossip kids dreamed of.  Immediately upon returning to school, I received colored balloons that exclaimed, “Red means STOP. Green means GO.”  High schoolers are so witty, right?

Max Baker, Restoration Technician

My favorite memories of high school happened outside the school (unsurprisingly). The times when I was outside on the golf course playing for our school team, taking walks and riding bikes through the forest that surrounded our backyard, or driving my car for the first time outside of our county were moments that still seem vivid to me now. I think it is the strength of these images that continue to drive me to have similar experiences, outside, in new places, with people I enjoy.

Join us as we celebrate our 15th year. Stay tuned for the announcement of our 15th Birthday Bash!
