9-27-08 SPU

Today we had a larger work party of 50 people. We hosted 38 students from Seattle Pacific University (SPU) and it was also an open work party. The Washington Native Plant Society (WNPS) also joined us to work on their site in the lower Soundway. We split up into three groups; the first group worked with WNPS maintaining second growth himilayan blackberry, the second group was digging up primary rootballs in an area that had been cut back, and the third group worked on sheet mulching. In total, these groups managed to maintain 2800 sq.ft. and mulch 4800 sq.ft. and still had time to build a tepee of dead wood. At lunch we were entertained by Rosalynn Deroos and Ben Gown, a clarinet and accordian duo. After the break, a few people enthusiastically were taking out big rootballs and holly trees with the weed wrench.

So unfortunately somehow 3/4 of my pictures were erased.. so if anyone has photos please send them to me via e-mail volunteer@naturec.org so I can add them and diversify my blog entry. Thanks!
