Bikes and brews! A few of our favorites:
It’s beer week at Nature Consortium! We’re gearing up for Clips of Faith (this Friday!), and we’ve got bikes and beer on the brain. New Belgium is set to have 14 of their finest brews on tap, including our staff favorite Ranger IPA. We’re also raffling off a “Fat Tire” cruiser bike (must be present to win). Here’s what a few of our staff have to say this week:
Amy Truax, Grant Manager
Fave New Belgium beer: “Gotta be the Ranger IPA! Especially in the can, makes it easier to transport when you’re camping. 🙂 “
“I have an old school Trek bike that I traded for a loaf of pumpkin bread! It’s bright blue and yellow with sweet blue tires—I definitely got a good deal on it. I ride it from my house in the Central District to Capitol Hill a lot and I also try to ride it to work as often as I can, but that’s not so easy right now with all the construction along the waterfront. I also love riding along the Burke-Gilman up to Matthews Beach when it’s sunny enough!”
Lizzie Jackson, Restoration Project Coordinator
“Where do I go to grab a beer in Seattle? I love going to local breweries. I think I have been to most of the breweries in Seattle. We are lucky to have so many good ones in our city! My favorite right now is Big Al’s brewery in White Center. If New Belgium decided to relocate to Seattle I’d be there, guess I’ll just have to go to Colorado!”
Nancy Whitlock, Executive Director
“I love New Belgium’s Ranger. I’ve been in an IPA phase for a while and Ranger hits the spot. The new cans are pretty cool, too!”
“Being a parent, I don’t get out as much as I’d like, so I’ll occasionally get a growler filled at Beveridge Place Pub. It’s a cozy neighborhood place owned by some super-down-to-earth folks – Terri Griffith & Gary Sink! The Porterhouse in West Seattle is a great place also – good food, friendly staff and an awesome choice of brews on tap.”
“I have an old Giant bike that I ride with my husband and son. The Green River trail is wonderful.”
Ryan Applegate, Associate Director
Favorite New Belgium brew: “Ranger IPA. Duh!”
“Unfortunately, I often go to Red Door in Fremont. Cheap Rainiers and an abundance of over-cologne-ed fraternity bros keep me coming back. “
