Nature Consortium celebrates 15 years with Deep Roots benefit bash
Fifteen years ago, Nancy Whitlock threw a block party on her West Seattle street to help bring her community together. Today, that effort has grown into a thriving nonprofit called Nature Consortium, connecting people, arts, and nature in Seattle and King County. To celebrate their 15th anniversary, Nature Consortium will host Deep Roots, a benefit bash on Thursday, March 21 at SODO Park.
Deep Roots will be a night of music, local food, and a rousing program emceed by Andrew McMasters of Jet City Improv. Proceeds from the event will go towards Nature Consortium’s youth engagement and environmental restoration programs. The organization works year round to provide free art classes to low-income youth and restore habitat in Seattle’s largest forest, the West Duwamish Greenbelt.
The evening will begin at 6pm with a happy hour featuring beer, wine, passed hors d’oeuvres, and live music by local gypsy jazz band Ranger & the Re-Arrangers. Guests can mingle, enjoy the photo booth, and bid on a range of silent auction items from REI camping gear to a tour of Elliott Bay Brewery.
The seated dinner begins at 7pm with a local, organic menu by Herban Feast. The program for the night, emceed by McMasters, will be a mix of comedy, film, inspiring speeches by youth, and a Raise the Paddle.
After dinner, guests can enjoy handcrafted desserts by Snoqualmie Ice Cream and the Essential Baking Company. Seattle jazz band Mabel will close the night.
Tickets for Deep Roots are $75. There is a suggested $100 minimum donation at the event, and gifts of $250 or more will be matched. All proceeds from Deep Roots will help fund Nature Consortium’s youth programs, community projects, and habitat restoration.
