Deep Roots: Our Heartfelt Thanks

Deep Roots at Sodo Park – Such a beautiful venue!

It’s officially one week after our first ever Deep Roots benefit bash, and we’re still glowing from all the excitement. Deep Roots has been our biggest, most fun, and most successful fundraiser ever. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make it a wonderful evening.

This year’s fundraiser brought a lot of new things for us: a new beautiful venue, our first year with an emcee, a photo booth, a great silent auction, a Raise the Paddle, and our first time hosting an evening event rather than a Sunday brunch. We also broke our record for the amount of money raised (over $70,000) from individuals and sponsors. In many ways, we feel like we’re “growing up.”

Deep Roots was an amazing experience. The food was delicious, the program was heartfelt, and guests were lively and excited. The photo booth was a big hit. Everyone took turns donning silly props: wigs, hats, faux fur, fake mustaches, and funny signs. When all the staff came back to the office on Friday, we had a lot a laughs looking through all the photos.

What really makes me happy is not just the money we raised. Money is great, and it helps us continue to do what we do, but what really strikes me is the outpouring of love I felt in that room for Nature Consortium and our community. It feels great to know that our supporters truly believe in what we are doing and want to be there to see us thrive.

Many people who attended Deep Roots were long-time NatureC supporters. They donate and volunteer year after year and have watched us grow from a small seedling to the organization we are today. Still others came, invited by friends, family, or coworkers, and learned about us for the first time. Our community is growing, and we’re so excited to see what lies ahead.

Every year during the fall and winter, I create a short video to show at our annual fundraiser that captures the spirit of Nature Consortium. This year’s video focuses on the story of Sean, a 10 year old boy in our Youth Art Program. Elizabeth Dahl, our Site Coordinator at Yesler Community Center, describes how she has helped Sean develop into a creative leader. Watch the full Deep Roots video here:

We couldn’t have done any of this without you. I also want to give a special thank you to all of our speakers, performers, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and staff who helped make Deep Roots happen. We are incredibly grateful to have you as a part of our community. And after taking time this week to reflect on our success, we’re already dreaming up new ways to make next year’s fundraiser even more amazing. See you next time.

Thanks again to our sponsors!
