DNDA’s Earth Day Month Recap!

Sharing is caring!

April was Earth Month and we were thrilled to host about 70 volunteers at Pigeon Point Park for our annual Duwamish Alive Earth Day celebration!

This event focused on continuing the ongoing restoration of the forest at the park, and featured eco-art activities and performances from local musicians Benson Smith and KoWallace. DNDA would also like to give a shoutout to David Ike for capturing this wonderful event through photos.

This year, we partnered with Nancy Whitlock, the founder of longtime West Seattle nonprofit Nature Consortium, which merged into DNDA in 2016. Nancy and many former Nature Consortium staff returned to the park where they launched the restoration project more than two decades ago.

Our volunteers removed blackberry and spread wood chip mulch throughout about 10,000 square feet of forest, continuing the long-term project to restore native forest in this area.

This year is the 20th anniversary of the Green Seattle Partnership. The milestone has prompted reflection on all that has been accomplished by tens of thousands of volunteers over the decades, and it felt like a natural occasion to highlight all that was accomplished under the Nature Consortium banner.

Elsewhere during Earth Month, we hosted more than 400 volunteers over 17 community restoration events! Thanks to all who contributed to our Earth Day event at Pigeon Point Park and participated in Earth Month events throughout the neighborhood.
