Chamber Chorale concert to donate proceeds to nonprofit
SEATTLE – Nature Consortium is partnering with the Musica Sacra Chamber Chorale to host two nights of choral concerts entitled Sacred Music: Different Views. The theme for the concert seeks to answer the question: “How would different sacred texts sound when set to music by different composers in different centuries?”
The choir will present three musical settings of each of four sacred texts. Each setting was written by a different composer across the Renaissance, Baroque, Classic, Romantic and Modern periods. Included in the program are settings by well-known composers such as Mozart and de Lassus, as well as lesser known composers Michel-Richard DeLalande and Ralph Manuel. Ave Maria, Alleluia, and Sure On This Shining Night are a few of the texts selected. The latter half of the concert will also include three spirituals that explore the theme of preparing to pass from this world to the next.
In keeping with their tradition of giving back to the community, Musica Sacra will donate part of the proceeds from this concert series to Nature Consortium, a West Seattle nonprofit providing arts and environmental education to youth and adults in the Seattle area.
Nature Consortium’s programs are brimming with music. They host free concerts for volunteers every Saturday during their forest restoration events as part of their mission to connect people, arts, and nature. Their art classes for youth also include choir, African drumming, and music production.
“One of Musica Sacra’s primary missions is to partner with other outreach non-profits to help support their specific vision,” says Musica Sacra artistic director and conductor Bob Ingalls. “Who better to partner with than Nature Consortium whose mission is to connect people, arts and nature? Our two organizations have a natural synergy.”
The concerts will take place in Bellevue on April 28 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and in West Seattle on May 4 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Tickets are available for purchase through the Musica Sacra website ($18-20) or at the door ($22-25). For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.musicasacrachamberchorale.com.
