Celebrating Our Community

Nature Consortium rallied our community and our legislators to save a section of our beloved greenbelt called Soundway from being sold to developers. After six long years, the City of Seattle finally designated Soundway as a public park in January 2011. We’d like to take the time to celebrate everyone who made this possible.

Picnic in the Park will be a celebration of the community’s work to save the Soundway property, both legally and ecologically. Nature Consortium will honor community members who saw value in the land and fought to preserve it, as well as the thousands of volunteers who have helped transform it from a wild, overgrown blackberry jungle to the vibrant forest habitat it is today.

Celebrating Our Back Yard

The Soundway property is just one section of the largest forest in Seattle. Nature Consortium has been working to restore habitat in Soundway with an army of volunteers since 2003.

As restoration has improved the quality of the landscape and trails over the years, Soundway has become a recreation destination for hikers, dog walkers, neighbors, and families in the area. Picnic in the Park will bring neighbors old and new together to celebrate this important local green space as habitat, as community space, and as a vital resource for our city.

It’s Official: June 15 is Soundway Day

Mayor McGinn issued a proclamation to officially declare June 15 as Soundway Day in the City of Seattle. Click here to view the proclamation.
