“Skeletons at the Table” celebrates Day of the Dead and a second chance at life

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SEATTLE (October 11, 2011) – Nature Consortium celebrates Day of the Dead at this month’s West Seattle Art Walk. Our featured artist is Oleana Perry, whose “Skeletons at the Table” is one of three finalists in the CityArts Totally Subjective Opinion Awards. These skeleton creations are themed around el Dia de los Muertos, the Mexican Day of the Dead, are hand crafted from recycled wine bottles.

After her mother’s battle with cancer, Oleana created “Skeletons at the Table” as a symbol of transition. “We have a second chance with mom,” says Perry. “And we can celebrate the good times in the past, let the hard or painful parts die, and focus all our energy on our new life.”

All of the skeletons in “Skeletons at the Table” are dressed in their best. They are here to have fun and represent all the positive times you have experienced – to bring joy and laughter to your table. Their bony grins create a quiet reminder to let some things die, allowing room for the present.

Oleana’s skeletons will be featured at the Nature Consortium’s Art Walk gallery (4210 SW Oregon St) this Thursday 6-9pm. Local jazz band Billy and the Bouncers will also perform 7-8pm.

To vote for “Skeletons at the Table” in the CityArts contest, visit the downtown Seattle Verizon Wireless store at 6th & Olive.
