Nature Consortium has Deep Roots at Youngstown
Nature Consortium has been a long-time tenant of the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, and we look forward to many more years of partnership and programming. Nature Consortium’s Marketing Content Specialist, Monica Thomas, wrote the post below to let you know a little more about what Nature Consortium does for the community.
Nature Consortium at Youngstown, by Monica Thomas:
Nature Consortium is a community organization that connects people, arts, and nature. We engage people of all ages in arts and environmental programs that connect them with their neighbors and give them the tools they need to make positive change. In the classroom, Nature Consortium provides free after school eco-arts programming to youth in low-income communities in Seattle. And in the field, we engage thousands of volunteers every year to restore important habitat in Seattle’s largest remaining forest, the West Duwamish Greenbelt.
As one of the very first anchor tenants in the building, Nature Consortium is proud to be part of a community of artists, educators, students, and neighbors at Youngstown. Sharing this space offers an opportunity to collaborate, share resources, and exchange knowledge as we all work toward similar goals. Last year, we partnered with fellow Youngstown tenant Southwest Interagency Academy, with classrooms just down the hall, to provide free visual arts programming for their students.
Youngstown serves as an excellent hub for Nature Consortium’s operations. We have the most beautiful back yard, the West Duwamish Greenbelt, just a few minutes away. For over eleven years Nature Consortium has been working with other neighbors to restore habitat in this greenbelt as part of our Urban Forest Restoration Program. It is truly a community effort, and we’re thankful to have such wonderful friends and neighbors come together to make a difference. It is our goal to make arts and nature accessible for all community members to enjoy.
